Peeking into an Artist's World: Circé

“Each drawing or painting I work on has it's own particular challenge and reward,” recalls artist Circé. “I did enjoy the Vagina series for what it meant to me. It was challenging to me on a deeper level since I am a woman of transsexual origin and had to overcome many hurdles before being blessed with my own vagina.”

Plaything: Beeswax Taper Candles

I absolutely adore these Beeswax Taper Candles. Love ‘em. Everything about ‘em. I don’t even feel like I have to explain why, I just want to tell you to go buy them. They're that good.

OK, but in all seriousness, these candles are pretty great. I’m a big fan of candlelit bathtime, candlelit bedtime, candlelit anytime, really, but I’m not a fan of the waxy residue-y smell I find a lot of candles—particularly scented ones—leave in the air after I burn them.

Pillow Talk: Society of Bastet

Do you think the only knots they tie in Halifax are on fishing boats? That kink is one of those things that gets in your fishing line? That Bluenose is a boat? (Okay, that last one actually is a boat-related thing!) Well, if you are a touch confused about all things sex—beyond vanilla—then you should check out the Society of Bastet (SoB).

Sexlife Canada recently caught up with Ranger, SoB’s Director of Media and Communications, to check in on the status of the kinky scene in Halifax and the organization’s role in its growth.

Your Local Neighbourhood Sexual Alchemists: Sex Butter

Sex Butter was inspired by 2 individuals; the beautiful Bonnie Stern and the formulator who has partnered with her in this mission,” reveals Amanda Graumann, President of Sex Butter Canada Ltd.. “When Bonnie was 41 she went into premature menopause and while she was very youthful, her body started going south and sex became extremely painful and uncomfortable. She went out in the market place looking for a product that was healthy and organic and there was nothing.

View From The Top: Stop Sexualizing Children

In retrospect, it was probably a bad idea to type ‘child pornography’ into Google. I'm sure I'm on a list somewhere now, and I can picture myself in a dark room with a blinding light overhead being subjected to the 'good cop, bad cop' routine. They'll ask questions like, “Why did you read the Wikipedia entry on the JonBenét Ramsey case?” and “Why did you watch Toddler's and Tiaras?” I'd curl up in the fetal position and admit that over the past few years I've also watched To Catch a Predator and Dora the Explorer more than once.

No Beer Goggles Needed: Miss Apodysis

“It was a lovely day in summer of '05 or '06 and I was enjoying the patio weather with my good friend Lee,” remembers Toronto burlesque freak Miss Apodysis. “A woman named Pynky Love happened by with flyers and asked Lee if he knew anyone who could dance at her next show. Though I barely knew what burlesque was, he recommended me and I was drunk, so I agreed.”

Erotic Photography: How to Build a Better Model

I have a friend, a really great photographer who says, 'I don’t take pictures of people who don’t want their pictures taken. I like to take good pictures and people who don’t want their photo taken just don’t take good pics.' I hate to admit it, but she's right.

Diving Right In: Simone K.

“When I decided to start a blog, I knew that I wanted to have a specific focus, reveals Simone K., author of Skinny Dip. “I don't really cook that much and hate getting dressed in the morning so, I knew fashion and food blogging were out. People have always told me I have really good stories when it comes to sex & dating...I started the blog as way of cataloging and sorting through some of the experiences in my 20's (and now, 30's).
