Your Local Neighbourhood Pin-up Photographer: Pin-up Perfection

“For me pin-up is about the tease,” reveals Shimona Henry of Pin-Up Perfection. “[Its] the indication of sexual presence without the showcasing of nude body parts.”

The aesthetic of pin-up photography has enabled it to endure for decades and is still going strong. Popular among burlesque performers, models and every day folks, Shimona launched her own career in shooting fantastic pin-up shots as an extension of her make up artistry training. “I attended Vancouver Film School in 2006 for Make up Artistry. I began specializing in Retro make up and as I was building my portfolio I began shooting my own work, self-taught. When people saw my Portfolio they realized I was the photographer as well and began requesting make overs as well as photoshoots.”

With Pin-up Perfection, Shimona hopes to provide women images of themselves that are sexy and playful to help boost their self-esteem. She offers many different photo packages, including The Vixen, The Bombshell, The Centrefold, The Pin-up, and the Calendar Cutie. All of these include professional hairstyling and make-up, props and wardrobe. She also offers parties for a minimum of 3 women, held at their spacious studio in White Rock. Throughout the summer, she offers special deals.

People come to have their sexy photos taken for various different reasons. “It depends on the client,” Shimona offers. “Some love the culture and want shots for themselves, for some it's a gift for a loved one or spouse. Stagettes and birthday parties are a frequent themes as well!” She has also done pin-up photos for men and trans folks.

After the shoot, when it is time for the big reveal, Shimona delights in seeing her client’s reaction. “I've had people cry, out of joy that they're the beautiful pin up on the screen. Lots of smiles and return clients.“

While her pin-up work remains about the tease, Shimona also dabbles in other photographic genres. Her sister photography business, Dead By Dawn Photography, showcases nude, fetish and horror photography.

Moving forward, Shimona hopes to continue to grow Pin-up Perfection and open a secondary studio. She’d also like to do some traveling to shoot new clients and friends. Ultimately, she knows that her style will endure as a popular photographic form. “Pin-up is classy and timeless. There is always a decade we can find that suits our clients needs.”
